A Guide to In-Person and
Online Courses for Fall 2020
We're working hard to ensure you get the absolute best experience when you start classes this fall. We know you have been wondering what to expect. And as you've probably guessed, things will look a little different than they normally do.
The University of Arizona will offer four types of classes. Depending on your preference, classes range from fully in-person to fully online.
Check out this video<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=0aa8c49248f87e613eb913df3ccb27691dffc06326791f577935f317153e72d7aec82c693472b5916ce06bf2c2a3fa5b00749f85a72d7686> and read below for more information about our new course formats.
[Old Main Building]
IN-PERSON COURSES
Students and instructors all attend class in person with enhanced physical distancing and cleaning protocols. These classes require "enhanced protections" for all such as:
* Required face coverings for instructors and students.
* Providing disinfectant for students to clean their individual spaces.
* Increased air flows.
* Classes moved into larger classrooms, for physical distancing.

FLEX IN-PERSON COURSES
In these courses, students participate in a mix of in-person and online modes. For example:
* Your instructor may divide your class into rotating groups that alternate between in-person and online meetings following the weekly class schedule.
* Or your instructor may divide the class into separate in-person and online groups on a rotating basis. They will then lead the course for students in-person and at a separate time for the remainder of the class via Zoom or a similar app.

LIVE ONLINE
In Live Online courses, the instructor and students are online simultaneously, and your instructor provides content via Zoom, Panopto or Google. Live Online courses are a good option if you're planning to engage remotely for the duration of the semester.

iCOURSE
In iCourses, students and instructors are not required to be online simultaneously, and students complete their work independently through D2L. Like Live Online courses, iCourses are a good option if you're planning to remain remote for the duration of the semester.
All courses will provide options for students who are unable to come to campus due to illness or other temporary circumstances. Students planning to learn remotely online should enroll in Live Online or iCourses, but can request a special exemption if needed for degree progress or completion. In-Person and Flex In-Person classes will finish the in-person meetings by Thanksgiving, with the remainder of the class being held in online or remote formats, to allow students to choose to remain at home after the Thanksgiving break if they wish.
WHAT'S NEXT?
You can go to the redesigned UAccess Student Center to see the Fall 2020 class schedule updated with the planned class format and information about any new meeting locations. If you are already enrolled, please access your class schedule online and review for any updates. A guide on how to review the schedule is available here<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=0aa8c49248f87e61cbdfba0bdcaa333028bd7a1955da23d78249161cc73eeeee2f6f52ddacf0315aa8012af8dcadf69797ff2328b0be4603>.
You can adjust your selected classes through UAccess to meet your individual needs. Please connect with your academic advisor<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=0aa8c49248f87e616b9a351d11a7914121a3dddf18fc65461cd4e68ee9da4bb4a41c5ff90ca635e90e7c8a605f536d205cc3b3cb20a9ede5> to determine what options will help you continue on your path to graduation.
As you know, the coronavirus situation continues to evolve, so some classes may still have updates prior to the beginning of the semester. Please be sure to check your schedule and connect with your advisor again as the start of term draws closer to make sure your schedule continues to align with your needs and preferences.
