Greetings Agvisors,

Thank you all for the ongoing work and support in welcoming new students! During this month, students that missed an earlier orientation session may reach out to inquire on next steps to make up the session or sign up for a new one.  Per enrollment management leadership, students should be referred to Dolores Machado (contact information below). You may also refer CALS students to the advsing at cals.arizona.edu address and we can verify if they were a true No Show or if they’re just missing the academic advising appointment.

We will continue doing our best to support all students.  Attached are also two documents for your reference.  Further details below.

Dear All,

Last week, we collectively wrapped up the first round of our first ever digital orientation sessions! Thank you to all who participated and assisting in making this a reality in such a short time frame.

Attached are two resources for your use.

  *   An approved statement to help you share what the university of planning for the fall at this time. Right now, the plan is still working toward opening.  I know President Robbins’ shared that he would not open if he had to make the call on that day in his June 26 press conference, and that may have caused a bit of confusion. Although it is an evolving process, work continues to open in August (again…at this time).
  *   Frequently Asked Questions regarding financial/merit aid, changing campuses, etc. This is an internal document for your use in answering questions.

Other important notes.

  *   Given the unique nature of the digital format for Orientation and the unprecedented situation brought about by COVID-19, we have seen a higher than usual number of no-shows during Orientation this year (averaged 13% vs 3-4% in a “normal year”). In the digital format, it's much easier for students to drop in and out of various sessions and, just like us, students and families are also experiencing last minute changes to their work schedules and/or illnesses that require adjustments.
  *   Students are reaching out to multiple offices daily. We know July is often the only time our teams can take a small and much deserved break, and we want to help ensure that we are following up with students in a timely fashion.  If you are working with a new first-year student who has not been through/missed Orientation, please have them contact Dolores Machado<mailto:doloresm at arizona.edu> ASAP so that we can add their new enrollment appointment and get them on track to attend an upcoming Orientation session. We know the quickness and thoroughness of each response makes all the difference in enrollment decisions right now.
