This film focuses on the Nahed Chapman New American Academy (brief history<https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/new-st-louis-academy-welcomes-children-from-other-nations/article_d91e9853-9106-5984-ad1c-b5c2d8a7f363.html>), a school focused on providing a transitional education for resettled immigrants and refugees into the St. Louis (Missouri) School System. The documentary follows a few of the educators and students over the course of a year, highlighting the challenges and successes of the teachers and students in such a unique environment as the students prepare to integrate into the public school system, which I can only imagine is a daunting transition for kids who have not grown up in a "normal" environment.

St. Louis has resettled approximately 24,000 refugees since 1980 including the largest Bosnian population outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The International Institute of St. Louis is the resettlement program (website<https://www.iistl.org/refugee.html>) tasked with welcoming and transitioning these families and individuals into the community. In the past couple years, the anti-immigration rhetoric spread through the Rust Belt/Mid West states has stymied the impact of many resettlement programs to address the needs of these new community members and discredited the positive role new immigrants have played to benefit the local economy and culture.

The film is not only a "feel good" story but creates awareness of issues many future educators, humanitarians, and mental health advocates could benefit from.
