Subject: [UPAC] Transfer evaluations in Science
Hello campus advisors!
Below are a few helpful reminders for you and your students about transfer evaluation in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, and Physics. Please share widely, and let us know if you have questions about any of these processes. The department contacts are listed for each.
Thank you and best wishes for a smooth priority registration season!
Robin
Chemistry and Biochemistry: Megan Cunnington mac990 at email.arizona.edu<mailto:mac990 at email.arizona.edu>
* Please submit syllabi and coursework through the Transfer Credit Office online evaluation form https://aztransmac2.asu.edu/cgi-bin/WebObjects/acres.woa/wa/form?id=498
* Please verify the Out-of-State CEG with the student before submitting the syllabi. The department decision is based on objective criteria and cannot be appealed. If a course has been evaluated as CHEM 101A, for instance, it will not be changed to CHEM 151 just because the student needs it for their particular major.
* In-person evaluation requests will be rejected, and students are required to submit the online form themselves, staff will not do it on their behalf.
* Students transferring online lectures may be required to submit additional information.
* If CHEM/BIOC coursework is substituted into your major requirement but is not officially evaluated for direct equivalency, CBC will not accept it for our minors. We require all transfer coursework that may apply to our majors and minors to be directly articulated.
Biology: MCB subject area (MCB 181R/L) Kara Dyson: kdyson at email.arizona.edu<mailto:kdyson at email.arizona.edu>; ECOL subject area (ECOL 182R/L) Sarah Kortessis: sarahkortessis at email.arizona.edu<mailto:sarahkortessis at email.arizona.edu>
* Biology classes are evaluated online only - Students should submit syllabi for coursework here: https://aztransmac2.asu.edu/cgi-bin/WebObjects/acres.woa/wa/form?id=498
* In-person evaluation requests will be rejected, and students are required to submit the online form themselves, staff will not do it on their behalf.
* Students should give as much information about the course taken (syllabi, course descriptions, course outlines with topics covered, textbook used) in order to determine equivalency. If we do not receive enough information about the course, we may ask for additional information to determine equivalency.
* Students should only use this form to determine equivalency for courses that are not already listed in the Transfer Credit Guide and have not previously been evaluated for MCB or ECOL credit.
Physics: Holly Brown: brownhb at email.arizona.edu<mailto:brownhb at email.arizona.edu>
* Domestic transfer physics credit must be submitted using the online form: https://aztransmac2.asu.edu/cgi-bin/WebObjects/acres.woa/wa/form?id=498.
* Students must submit a detailed syllabus and weekly lab information, and should include information on number of hours met, weekly topics covered (especially in labs), and the course textbook.
* Please allow a few weeks for review.
* International transfer physics credit should be e-mailed to phys-ugrad-advising at list.arizona.edu<mailto:phys-ugrad-advising at list.arizona.edu> for review and should include a detailed, translated syllabus and lab information.
* Students who have earned credit for the equivalent of physics lectures (Mechanics PHYS 141, and/or Electricity & Magnetism PHYS 241) but lack credit for the corresponding labs, can sign up for stand-alone lab sessions by visiting PAS 260.
