Subject: [uaac] Degree Map Discontinuation
CAAC & UAAC Partners:
After careful consideration of constructive feedback from the academic advising community, UITS, Student Success and Retention Innovation, and Academic Affairs collectively agreed to discontinue the University of Arizona’s contract for the Civitas Degree Map product. While we had expected the product to mature at a rate that would address UA’s degree planning needs, ongoing concerns about accuracy and feature gaps necessitate a change.
Academic Advisors play a central role in supporting students, and we are committed to enabling your work through improved technology and information. To that end, the advising community can look forward to collaborating on new solutions coming through the Trellis Program in the coming year, including:
* Trellis Advise (Nov 2019) – academic advising appointments, communications and notes
* Degree search rebuild (Timeline under development)
It’s never easy to change direction after contributing heavily toward a particular outcome. We appreciate the time and energy the UA advising community put into our efforts with Degree Map, and will use lessons learned and continuous input cycles to inform future collaboration.
Next Steps: In the coming week links to Degree Map will be removed from the ARC website and UAccess Student. Students who have used Degree Map will receive one of two communications about its discontinuation along with instructions for downloading plans they have created. The second email will go to students on August 19th, and Degree Map will be taken down a week later.
Feel free to reach out with questions or comments. Thank you for your ongoing collaboration.
Please cascade this message through your advising organizations.
Best Regards!
Darcy
