Greetings Danielle and Agvisors,
Danielle, thank you for the details on the TLS 100 course - get information. This is the first year course that had been mentioned at a couple Agvisor meetings but the colleges had not been provided with further details aside from what was posted to UPAC, Agvisors among other lists when they were recruiting instructors.
The Next Steps announcement was an option mentioned that now seems to have rolled out. At the UAAC meeting this was mentioned we were told that an announcement on college success courses would also be listed so that students would not have the impression this is the only type of course that could assist with their transition. Even though this TLS100 is not a success course you will notice that the topics are very comparable to what the CALS195C class offers (among other colleges' success courses).
I've reached out to campus colleagues to obtain more information. Will post updates to the Agvisors list. In the interim, since this class is not listed as a success courses, students can technically have both TLS100 and CALS195C (or the CALS ASEMS course). We would prefer they have one or the other but students can choose to have both. In the interim please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks again Danielle for the detailed information.
Best,
Nancy

All,
FYI-I found the syllabus for TLS 100 which is attached. The course will be 1 unit graded seminar, not a SCSS course.
The comments from "UAccess Course Add" details:
"The recent approval of the University of Arizona¿s Strategic Plan by the Arizona Board of Regents includes a reimagining of General Education offerings and curriculum. Imbedded in Pilar One of the Strategic Plan are critical initiatives for inclusion and retention of students beginning their first year of enrollment at the University of Arizona. Navigating the Research University (TLS 100) will be piloted as a one credit hour course in fall, 2019 as part of these initiatives under the directive of Interim Vice Provost of General Education (Dr. Elliot Cheu: echeu at email.arizona.edu<mailto:echeu at email.arizona.edu>), Vice President for Strategic Planning (Dr. Jane Hunter: jhunter2 at email.arizona.edu<mailto:jhunter2 at email.arizona.edu>), and the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Retention Innovation (Dr. Cynthia Demitriou: cpd at email.arizona.edu<mailto:cpd at email.arizona.edu>). While this piloted class will not currently ¿count¿ towards students¿ general education requirements, we hope to include it as a required GE course for fall 2020."
The course began its creation in UAccess as of May 16. Within the course add page, the instructors are listed as graduate students and academic advisors.

Subject: Next Steps: TLS100 Fall 2019
Hello All,
While reviewing a freshman's Next Steps Center today, I came across info on TLS 100. I am forgetting hearing about this course before. Are you all aware of this course, and that it is being advertised to incoming students in Next Steps? Below is a link to the course info, I do not find it in the SOC at this time. It appears it is not in the Catalog yet either, so it must still be in the process of being officially approved. I am curious if it will be considered a SCSS course, and how students might feel about taking TLS 100 and possibly CALS 195C together?
To those that are aware of TLS 100 and the course content, would you provide more information to us and possibly how we might approach this discussion should it come up whether they should take one or the other, or both, TLS 100 & CALS 195C?
