DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the Outdoor Recreation
Manager, plans, organizes, directs and evaluates a wide array of year-round
outdoor recreational activities/programs including but not limited to:
Outdoor Adventure Programs; water or land based activities; base wide
events, e.g., 4th of July Celebration, Festivals, Air Shows, etc; and other
instructional programs.  Program plans must include risk assessment,
comprehensive itineraries and a process for obtaining customer comments and
suggestions.  Recommends new programs, to include type of format and
resources the activity would require.  Gathers information from a number of
different sources, including past programs and current popular programs in
the community.  Evaluates information and makes a judgement on what meets
the needs of the specific clientele groups.  Assists in promoting marketing
strategies.  Provides a full range of supervisor duties for Adventure
Program guides and volunteers, responsible for assigning and reviewing work,
ensures job accomplishment, evaluates performance, and provides training for
program staff to ensure adequate skills in emergency procedures and in
customer relations.  Develops detailed annual/quarterly adventure programs
based upon site surveys and customer inputs.  Establishes calendars,
confirms itineraries, obtains permits/tickets where applicable, plans and
conducts post/pre departure meetings with participants, drivers and
volunteers, plans menus, ensures after action reports are completed.
Responsible for program equipment, ensuring all items are in good working
order, trains program staff and volunteers on maintenance, fitting and
related duties.  Determines the need for replacement program equipment,
notifies the manager of requirements.  Coordinates special group programs on
an as needed basis to include self-guided programs and professional
(contracted) programs.  Coordinates educational and recreational programs.
Performs administrative tasks such as preparing after action reports,
sending program information to customers, compiling and responding to
customer critiques and comment cards, maintains program records.  Works with
other staff members, volunteer and/or individual/personal services contract
personnel.  Operates a 13-15 passenger van with trailer to transport
patrons/equipment on outings and activities.  May provide available
information/assist patrons in selecting and furthering their interests in
respective areas.  Performs other duties as required.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must possess experience in planning, organizing, conducting
and evaluating outdoor adventure programs or other practical experience
which has provided a working familiarity and knowledge of the procedures and
programs followed in group activities of a recreation program.  Skill in
dealing with the public is necessary.  Must be able to work in a variety of
climates, cold or hot weather.  Must possess certifications in First Aid and
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (or equivalents), Wilderness First Aid is
desired but not necessary.  Must possess the ability to safely operate a
motor vehicle with attached trailer.  Must possess a valid driver's license
and satisfactory driving record with no major violations.  Availability to
work uncommon work schedule, including weekends and holidays.  Position is a
position of trust and is subject to satisfactory completion of a Tier 1 (T1)
Investigation. "This is a drug testing designated position.  The incumbent
is subject to random testing for drug use."

DUTIES:  Performs and /or assists other recreation assistants or specialists
in the operation and maintenance of indoor and/or outdoor recreational
facilities and services.  Types of duties include but are not limited to the
following: Sets up recreation areas for scheduled activities; records
attendance; uses computers equipped with Microsoft Office to take
reservations and payments for trips and tours, notifies participants of
schedule changes; arranges for equipment or tools, charging them out to
participants and checking them for condition on their return; decorates
community, neighborhood and recreation centers for special events,
activities or parties; strings tennis or volleyball nets; lines base lines
and base paths; sets up batting cages; checks the established safety system
of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and areas, tools and equipment;
uses telephones, computers in conjunction with internet websites or physical
signage to make announcements of scheduled activities and answers inquiries
about item, place, transportation or other matters related to activities
scheduled; takes inventory of authorized recreation supplies and equipment;
helps with group activities which require more than one staff monitor,
performing specifically assigned tasks. May be asked to lead single and
multi-day recreational trips including activities such as whitewater
rafting, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, rock
climbing and canoeing.  Performs other related duties as assigned.  

 
QUALIFICATIONS:  Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules and
procedures.  Familiarity with the use of computers and Microsoft Office.
Ability to safeguard and handle cash.  Skills in use and maintenance of
various recreational equipment and facilities are desirable.  Previous
personal and/or professional experience and current involvement with
whitewater rafting, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing,
rock climbing, canoeing and other outdoor recreation activities is strongly
preferred.  Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 Investigation
(T1).  Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 60 days of
employment.  Must possess a valid drivers' license.  "This is a drug testing
designated position.  The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug
use."  Position of Trust.
