Subject: [UPAC] math PPL assessment, Next Steps, Math 100 registration
Hi,
The test (ALEKS PPL Math Placement Assessment) is live! Thanks to everyone who worked on this!
I will email students participating in the Seattle Orientation today.
Next Steps Center:
The Math Placement Assessment is now available through the Next Steps Center for Incoming students.
The Math portion of the proxy should be available soon, but you can view it for freshmen through
https://nextsteps.arizona.edu/math/ by entering a SID, or entering a plan and various test scores.
Freshmen need to read their initial SAT/ACT placement and are encouraged to the the ALEKS PPL
Assessment if the SAT/ACT placement does not qualify the student for the foundation math requirement
based on the student's current major. There is also a retesting recommendation if the ALEKS PPL score
is not at the level of the student's foundation math requirement.
After the PPL score is processed into the UA system (8am, noon, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm), the placement message
is updated and the student then has access to a free Prep and Learning Module through their Next Steps Center
for review before retesting.
Transfer students determine if they need to test (need Calc I or below and do not have a recent prerequisite).
Current students:
Testing is available through Examity. Can email placement at math.arizona.edu<mailto:placement at math.arizona.edu> for instructions on how to access
the D2L course to access Examity proctoring, or can view the details at
https://mathhelpdesk.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/14000082778-how-can-i-access-the-aleks-ppl-math-placement-test-to-test-or-retest-
We will have in person testing in the ILC room 140 later this month.
Examity and the ALEKS PPL Placement Assessment:
FAQs: https://mathhelpdesk.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/14000070380
Examity requires access to a webcam with a microphone. The testing session is recorded.
Certain calculators are allowed. The test should take 60-90 minutes, but student are given 3 hours to complete the test.
Students will need to create a profile in Examity, load a photo id, and schedule a testing appointment. On demand testing
(testing right away) is available through the Examity access through the Next Steps Center without any additional fees.
Math 100 registration for current students:
Since we no longer have Math 100AX, we are allowing any current students to register for Math 100 through UAccess, even if test scores
are expired or placed a student into Math 100AX. After priority registration, entry into Math 100 will be through the Math Department to
avoid any potential conflicts with the S4S cohorts. Students can contact placement at math.arizona.edu<mailto:placement at math.arizona.edu> .
