Greetings Agvisors,

Below is additional information on the Transfer Student Orientations.

As a reminder, the three students we have today for the STU210 transfer orientation will only attend the college meeting. They will have the opportunity to schedule an advising appointment with the respective advisors to officially complete their orientation on a future date. Students will be made aware that the schedule of classes will not be available until this Thursday March 1.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Nancy

Subject: RE: Transfer Student Orientation Registration is Live!

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for all the great questions! Answers are below:

  * How much is the transfer enrollment fee (EF) you refer to below?
     * $95, which is the same as it has been in the past.
  * What will the EF cover?
     * The majority of the EF for Transfer students supports the Transfer Student Center, the remainder helps to cover the cost of Next Steps Center, Orientation (materials, facilities, staffing, etc), and some smaller expenses.
  * Will students get any material(s) from UA (calendar, handbook, etc.)?
     * Yes, students will get the Transfer Resource Guide, which is similar to the freshman Orientation piece but focused to the transfer population.
  * Will placement exams, if needed, accrue a different fee? If so how much for Math? Second Language?
     * There is no change to this from previous years; the EF does not cover placement exam expenses. Unfortunately, I don't have the current costs on hand as both Math and Writing have not gone live with their exams for the Fall 2018 class. Second Language is $40.
  * How much money will they have on their lunch meal card?
     *   $10
  * The lunch has a timeframe but assume the meal card money won't expire, correct?
     * Correct, we put in the timeframe so they remember to use it, but it's good until the end of the day.
  * Who will be presenting the UA Student Tech? If colleges will be in different locations can the UA Student Tech start at least 10 minutes after the college meeting? Could that component be embedded and presented at the college meeting by chance?
     * We're still playing around with the "UA Student Tech" session and think we're settling on "Cat Chat". Like our Freshman programs, this is going to be led by our Orientation and Welcome Leaders. The majority will focus on UAccess, but they'll also have some time for questions and answers - we really want to make sure this is student led since the Mix and Mingle portion of the Transfer Student Welcomes were so well received. We'll let you know more about logistics when we finalize, but our current plan is to pick students up from college meetings and have a central location for these sessions.
  * Will your unit reserve college meeting locations or do we coordinate that? Aside from STU 210 since we coordinated our own locations
     * We will reserve the college meetings, as we hope to have them all in or as close to the SUMC as possible so they will take advantage of the conference sessions and the open houses before going to their individual advising appointments.
  * New Student Services is at Old Main lower level at 520-621-5293, correct?
     * Correct, although that number will be our call center, so feel free to forward students directly to my team, particularly Serena and Dolores for this program: http://orientation.arizona.edu/people

Thanks again for the questions and let me know if you think of any others!

Damien

Hi Damien,

Thank you for the information....and orientation season has begun! :)

Questions and I apologize in advance if I am to know this but I've missed the last two OAC meetings:

* How much is the transfer enrollment fee (EF) you refer to below?

* What will the EF cover?

* Will students get any material(s) from UA (calendar, handbook, etc.)?

* Will placement exams, if needed, accrue a different fee? If so how much for Math? Second Language?

* How much money will they have on their lunch meal card?

* New Student Services is at Old Main lower level at 520-621-5293, correct?

Thanks in advance for clarifying. Much appreciated!

Subject: [oac] Transfer Student Orientation Registration is Live!

Hello everyone,

We are happy to announce that registration for Transfer Student Orientation is now live on Next Steps Center! Within a half hour of opening registration, we already had two students sign up with no communication or notice, so we expect a large amount of registrations in the near future.

Here is some information about the registration process:

  * There are nine available Transfer Student Orientation sessions between April and August, but date availability and capacity vary greatly between colleges, departments, and majors. Instead of listing specific dates, please direct students to Next Steps Center to view which options are available to them.
  * If students don't see any available sessions or have conflicts with those listed, please direct them to New Student Services so we can check our registration system and discuss options.
  * We are developing an online program as an alternative for those who have legitimate conflicts with available dates; however, this is not publicly available and we want to limit knowledge about this session to encourage as many in-person participants as possible. Please do not mention the online program as an option to students.
  * Students have the option to register up to two guests for the program. There is a fee of $30 per guest. Students who applied and were eligible for a deferral of their Enrollment Fee are allowed to bring one guest free of charge.

And general information about the program itself:

  * Transfer Student Orientation is mandatory for all domestic, main campus transfer students who are not participating in the STU 210 transition course.
  * Students will have an individual academic advising appointment in addition to a more general college meeting; register for fall classes; receive their CatCard (if needed); and learn about campus resources through a resource fair, conference sessions, and open houses at the Transfer Student Center and VETS Center.
  * We tell students to prepare for a full-day program, but it will vary from student to student. Advising appointments are half-hour meetings ranging from 11:30am-4pm and times will be assigned during the college meeting. We will have conference sessions and registration support running throughout the afternoon.
  * A full sample program schedule can be viewed on the Orientation website<http://orientation.arizona.edu/sites/orientation.arizona.edu/files/Transfer%20Student%20Orientation%20Sample%20Agenda%202018.pdf> under the Transfer Students tab.

I have attached a copy of the email that will be going out to students shortly (note that some formatting does not display correctly in this PDF version). This version will go to students who have already completed the Enrollment Fee. We will send similar messaging to students who have been admitted but not interacted with the EF. After this initial batch of students, these will be modified into a regular communications series for students once they complete the EF.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you or your students have any questions about Transfer Student Orientation or the registration process. We will continue to send out new information as we finalize the program.

Thanks,
Damien
