Greetings Agvisors,

Happy first day of Fall term! It is always a great time welcoming all students to campus.

This email includes various announcements including a fun UA elective for students:

1. Fall 2018 Agvisor meetings: dates and times will be sent via Outlook calendar. Send agenda items and professional development ideas my way. Thanks in advance!

2. New CAS Team members: Kyle sent a doodle poll last week to obtain your availability for Chanda Petersen to meet with all of you and learn about your programs. We value your time and it is most likely that Juliana Lincoln and Serena Valle, new Agvisors, will attend the meetings as well. Thank you all in advance for this opportunity to have them all learn more about your majors/minors/certificates/student experiences/full overview. We welcome them to the CALS team!

3. Probation emails: The email notifications on behalf of the college to first time probation students have been sent. The UA Registrars sent notifications in June. Students will most likely start reaching out to you to review their academic plan, discuss the major, and more within the next couple of weeks. These students will also need to meet with a CAS advisor in Forbes 203 after meeting with you. These meetings should be completed by September 13 otherwise advising holds will be placed on their UAccess Student Center. The email notification sent to students will be uploaded to Box for your reference. These are all the students that had a letter 2 on the probation report sent in May.

a. The final part to their contract is to actively participate and complete the PASS Program. That unit will send them a separate email on how to enroll in the workshop series.

b. Probation notifications - continuing students on probation have been encouraged to meet with their major academic advisors and CAS advisors to check in on their status (letters 3 and 4). Students under courtesy term (letter 6) will need to meet with both major and college academic advisors. The students under courtesy term will end up with an advising hold if they do not meet with a CAS advisor by September 20. These students have high B deficits and may have options to help them attain good standing (i.e. GRO, retroactive withdrawal, etc.).

4. Strengths Power Point: thanks again to Dr. Torres on presenting to us on StrengthsQuest. The PP will sent via email separately. We will continue to use strengths throughout the term. Students in CALS 195C will be taking the assessment this week.

5. Thank You: we are appreciative of your assistance in having welcomed the new students throughout orientations, at UA Clicks and the New Student Welcome! It was a great success. Once the numbers are finalized they will be shared.

a. UA Clicks make-up: students that missed the UA Clicks presentation will receive an email of the recording within this week or next. The panopto recording will include a quiz throughout the presentation. Encourage students to go through the recording. If they do not refer to it, they will just miss the information. No holds will be placed on their accounts. They will also be encouraged to stop by Forbes 203 to pick up a planner for the year. At this point it will be highly encouraged for them to view the content - not mandatory.

6. College of Science (COS) and CALS panel of advisors in life sciences majors: the COS has a biological and life sciences exploratory course (ECOL197M) and have reached out to CALS to invite advisors to be part of a panel for the class on Friday September 7 from 2-2:50pm - as CALS/COS major day. If you are interested please let me know by 9/4 and I'll inform Robin Rarick on how many advisors plan to attend. She will try to compile questions from the class in advance. The goal is to make students aware of the available major/minor/certificate options.

7. UA Heritage and Traditions Course: AED 295B - 2 units (see below)

8. Suggestions: send us ideas, feedback, questions, concerns, etc.

Make it a wonderful week. Bear down team!

Best,
Nancy

(Dr. Torres, the syllabus was not included as the announcement indicates below). You can forward it to the agvisors at list.cals.arizona.edu<mailto:agvisors at list.cals.arizona.edu> or to me and I'll forward. Either will work. Student course announcement:

Needing to add credit hours? Consider adding Heritage & Traditions of UA - 2 cr.

All,

Fall 2018, MW 1:00 to 1:50, Modern Languages, rm 350

If you have a student who needs just a few more credit hours, have him/her consider AED 295B - The Heritage and Traditions of the University of Arizona. This is NOT a general education course, but it's a fun elective. I am the course instructor and have had as many as 300 students enrolled in the course. The course is offered each semester and I am attempting to boost enrollment for Fall 2018.

The purpose of this course is to cultivate a loyalty and appreciation for the University of Arizona by teaching students about its rich traditions and heritages. Among many things we highlight the John "Button" Salmon story, the history and evolution of Old Main, our mascots, and other historical/significant events, people, and buildings. We also touch on the various scientific discoveries and campus art. Along with these exciting topics, we have the UA President, Provost, Deans, Directors and athletic coaches talk with students about current UA events. To allow you to better understand the course, I have attached the course syllabus and included a video link to a promo video https://youtu.be/9_nOAniBttI.

Best,
BTorres
