Looking forward to the Agvisors retreat tomorrow Wednesday 12/13 from 10:30am-4:30pm. I am also available to take three individuals to and from campus. Plan to leave campus by 9:15am.
Also, the online form mentioned in the email below will be created later as many of you may have already filled out a similar form with ambassadors, and would not like to duplicate efforts. All will still have the opportunity to provide an overview on your major(s)/minor(s) at the retreat.
Have a great evening!
Best,
Nancy

Subject: [Agvisors] Fall 2017 Agvisors Retreat Wednesday December 13 and updates
Greetings Agvisors:
Happy Friday! Hope the transfer orientation student advising meetings went great, as it did with the college meeting this morning. I would also like to introduce our newest CALS advisor, Antonio Valenzuela, who will be advising AGTE and PLS majors in collaboration with faculty. Please help me in welcoming him to the CALS advising team – aav11 at email.arizona.edu<mailto:aav11 at email.arizona.edu>. CALS officially has professional academic advisors in all majors! This assists not only our main purpose – students – but also faculty, the college and institution overall.
Along great notes, the Fall 2017 Agvisors Retreat will be held on Wednesday December 13th from 10:30am-4:30pm. It will take place off campus at the Skyline Country Club<http://skylinecountryclub.com/> located at 5200 E St Andrews Dr, Tucson, AZ 85718. It is 11 miles from campus (~28 minute drive). Morning snacks will be provided, with a catered mid-day lunch from the facility. Thank you for submitting your RSVP (in reference to Amanda’s email)
We have a full agenda inclusive of a lecture presentation and workshop. To assure all advisors in CALS know the scope of majors all across please come prepared to explain your major(s) as you would tell a prospective student interested in your program. A link to an online form will be sent (will take place later). The requested information will include prompts that may assist in coming up with your major(s) elevator speech/commercial, in case you do not already have one. It is important we are all aware of where to refer students that have interdisciplinary interests or could benefit from a minor in….or dual major in…..etc. CALS has great diversity and awareness of all possibilities helps us better in our profession. Thank you in advance for preparing this.
Festivity alert…..
1. White Cow gift exchange:
As part of the December retreat this year, we’ll be having a “White-Cow” Gift Exchange (same thing as a White Elephant). Participation is optional. If you wish to participate, please bring a wrapped gift, cost ranging from $5-$10 for the exchange. Outrageous, ridiculous, and re-gifted gifts are acceptable and encouraged. Thanks for considering!
If you have not experienced a White Elephant/White Cow Gift Exchange before, the way it works is:
1) Everyone brings a wrapped gift.
2) People draw numbers to determine the order in which they choose and open a gift.
3) Starting with the second person, you can either choose to steal someone else’s gift, or to open a new gift. The person who had their gift stolen opens a new gift.
4) This continues down the line until the last person opens their gift. As you can imagine, it can get quite entertaining.
Look forward to a productive and entertaining retreat. Send questions, updates, ideas my way.
Thank you for all you do!
Best,
Nancy
