Subject: [UPAC] Honors and degree checks

Hi all:

Since many of you are already kicking off your spring 2017 degree audit processes, I thought this would be a good time to clarify a few points about honors degree checks that tend to cause confusion for both students and advisors. I realize it's been a while since I've communicated with everyone, and know there are many new faces in the advising community!

1. Any student who is intending to graduate with honors needs to get an honors signature on the DAW. I don't care if I'm the first signature or the last, but do need to sign. Please refer students to our main line at 520-621-4262 to make an appointment.

2. If a student is active in honors but is not intending to complete the honors graduation requirements, they do not need to get an honors signature. You can just process the DAW as usual, and the honors requirements do not need to be addressed. If a student is short on honors requirements but is interested in finding a way to make it work, PLEASE do refer them to me so I can help them explore options.

3. Students who are not intending to graduate with honors are NOT required to withdraw from the Honors College. Unsatisfied honors requirements on the ADVIP will not hold up processing of the degree. We have many students who know they will not be graduating with honors but choose to maintain their enrollment because they are taking honors courses or taking advantage of some other honors opportunities. We occasionally hear from graduating students who do not want to withdraw from honors but were told they needed to do so, and that is just not true.

I hope this information is helpful! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about any honors-related requirements or issues.

Thanks! Happy Priority Registration!

-Rebecca
