Subject: [UPAC] International Students Starting in Summer

Dear advisors,

We recently received clarification from the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP)<https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/2015/01/who-is-sevp> that for new international undergraduate students beginning in the Summer term, immigration regulations require registration of 12 units over the summer (at least 6 units in Summer 1 and 6 units in Summer 2). Given the fast-paced nature of summer courses and limited course availability, we have been encouraging summer admits to start in the Fall semester instead. As a reminder, immigration regulations permit one online class or 3 online units to count towards full-time enrollment. This means that for the 12 units summer admits are required to take, only 3 units can be online.

Students who still choose to start in the Summer term will be required to attend an orientation session provided by ISS and should attend August orientation sessions around their summer class schedule.

I will be in touch with college advisors regarding how to direct summer admits.
