[Agvisors] Do you need to check pre-reqs for your dept courses?

Thank you for sharing Danielle. We have used PERC for a couple of years in Nutritional Sciences and I can vouch that it is an extremely useful tool if you are tasked with auditing courses for students not meeting the pre-requisite requirements. It is fairly intuitive and they provide a nice training manual to reference.

It is also nice because the system will drop students for you, which makes it less personal than their trusted advisor doing it. We like to give them an opportunity to explain their circumstance before dropping them (maybe courses have not been transferred yet...) so in the past we have given notification to the effect of:

"In an audit of the ____ course roster, you were identified as not meeting the pre-requisites for ___ course. Please respond by _____ to discuss your circumstances. You will be automatically dropped from X course by (date)."

They then get a notice from PERC stating that they have been dropped if we do not hear back from them and drop them from the class. My impression is that it makes the process feel a little bit more black and white to the student and there are fewer rebuttals. As we all know, having to be the enforcer can sometimes mess with an otherwise good dynamic you have with a student.

I think I recall that the training was relatively short so it would be awesome if they could come to Agvisors to deliver the training if it works on an agenda this fall... ; )

Subject: [Agvisors] Do you need to check pre-reqs for your dept courses?

Hello AGvisors,

How's it going? The info below may be of value to you or someone you know when working with enrollment in your department courses. I went to a Room and Course Scheduling Symposium yesterday and among other bits of info, I heard about PERC, have you ever heard of this before? I had not, and may be late to the game on it, but I wanted to send this info to AGvisors since it might be a useful tool for you. PERC is Post Enrollment Requirement Check, it's an easy way to check the class roster that each student has met pre-reqs, after grades have posted, since, as you know, they can register while in progress with the pre-req, and possibly fail and we never know it, and then they stay in the course, complete it but didn't pass the pre-req, or we are checking each student one at a time for pre-reqs (which I have had to do in the past and it is time consuming). The training for PERC is online in UAccess, My Learning and is self-paced and only took me about 30 minutes in total to go through the manual and take the multiple choice assessment. The access role in the provisioning request system is UAccess Student -> Campus Users -> Student Records -> PERC. It may or may not be useful for you, but I wanted to share just in case. I hope you are each doing well, see you around! :)
