Hi,

Pima is no longer offering a course that transfers to UA as Math 120R,
Calculus Preparation (PIMA MAT 187). They decided to split this into two courses,
MAT 188 and 189. Students must take MAT 188 first, as it is the prerequisite
to MAT 189. These two courses are often offered in the same semester,
MAT 188 as a first 7 week course, MAT 189 as a second 7 week course.

Pima MAT 188/189 is intended for students who plan on taking
Calculus (MAT 122a/b, or Pima MAT 220). MAT 188 transfers to UA
as Math 112. MAT 189 transfers as UA Math 111. The "old"
trig course (Pima MAT 182) may no longer be offered.

Pima still offers MAT 151, which also transfers as Math 112.
MAT 151 at Pima is intended for students who do not plan on
taking Calculus. On paper, MAT 188 and 151 are similar, so both
with satisfy UA Math 112.

For Pima students, this might help them figure out what to take:

Want college algebra but do not need calculus for science and engineering? Take MAT 151.

Want precalculus (or college algebra and trig) and also need calculus? Take MAT 188 and 189.
This would also include Architecture students who need college algebra and trig.

For now, either recently completed Pima course (MAT 151 or 188) would get a
student into the "next" course at UA:
MATH 111, 113, 116 (after MIS 111), 120R, 163, 263, SBS 200, CHEM 151, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
