[Agvisors] 4th Agvisors Meeting - Spring 2016

Greetings Agvisors:

Happy almost end of priority registration advising period! The 4th Agvisors Meeting will take place this upcoming Tuesday April 26 from 11:00am-1:00pm at McPark 206.  Lunch will be available by 11:00am.   Please submit your lunch selection from East Coast Super Subs<http://eastcoastsupersubs.net/5670> to Maria Bueno (mbueno at email.arizona.edu<mailto:mbueno at email.arizona.edu>) no later than Monday 4/25 by 12pm. Also let her know your drink selection (coke, diet coke or water).

Our discussion topic will be on intrusive (proactive) advising. The Inner Student: Kathleen Shea Smith at TEDxFSU description:
Kathleen Shea Smith is the Associate Director of Advising First, the network of academic advisors and success coaches at Florida State University. She is a leader in the National Academic Advising Association as Co-Chair of the Advising and Academic Coaching Interest Group and member of the Association's Research Committee. Kathleen believes that the secret to a great life is to fully embrace one's authenticity and express it in every human dimension. Genuine relationships empower us, work fueled by passion ignites us, and living a life of purpose grounds us. Having understood this on an intuitive level, it was in graduate school where she discovered the body of knowledge linking the experiences of the "inner student" with success in college. Research demonstrates that it is the number of meaningful connections that predict graduation, more so than grades or test scores. Kathleen has dedicated her career to a further examination of this dynamic and the development of campus programs that encourage students to discover their authentic selves and learn how to create a great life of empowerment, passion and purpose.
