Dear Colleagues,

It is often that our students get confused about Critical Languages Program department and what we do. It is crucial that we keep all our UofA students informed about their second language acquisition options.
We thought it would be of help to introduce our department to all of you for future reference and our collaboration with your department.

Critical Languages Program is a department that offers less-commonly taught languages (LCTL) to all students.
Our credit barring courses satisfy second language requirement, and are listed in catalog under Critical Languages (CRL).
We offer Korean, Polish, Norwegian, Cantonese, Scots-Gaelic, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Chechen, Vietnamese, Thai, Ukrainian, Kurdish, Hindi courses and more.
We try our best to accommodate and offer any of the languages students desire to learn. For instance, we just implemented Modern Greek.
We hope to not only maintain diverse language opportunities for U of A’s students, but  to shed light on a rare opportunity of studying languages that otherwise would be neglected.

Too often, advisors refer students to our department for placement and proficiency exams.
However, Linguistics Department <http://linguistics.arizona.edu/> is the correct department for such exams.
