[Agvisors] FW: General Education - Tier One Changes

Below is a policy update regarding the Tier One general education classes that has been discussed at Agvisor meetings.

A general education petition will not be needed for students that complete Tier One general education courses with the same letter (i.e. two 150A courses).  Starting Fall 2016 the ADVIPs will automatically populate the courses in the corresponding section, instead of defaulting one into the additional course work section.

Students that plan to graduate prior to August 2016 will need a course exception (refer them to Kristen Geary or myself).  A petition will not be needed though, we'll just enter the course exception per student or advisor request.

Hello Advisors,

As I informed you last month, Tier One Study Area requirements will officially change as of Fall 2016.  Although new and continuing students won't see the revisions on their UAccess Academic Advisement Reports for another year, current students may take advantage of the simplified Study Area requirements if they wish.

This option is explained in the attached memo and is noted in the 2015-16 Catalog, http://catalog.arizona.edu/2015-16/gened_tiers.html#tier1.  To spread the word among more faculty, this announcement will also be distributed via the weekly UA at Work system.
