Subject: ASBMB Undergraduate Affiliate Network
Good afternoon,
With school back in session, I would like to let you know more about the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN), and let you know of the advantages of being affiliated with the ASBMB UAN. The ASBMB UAN is a national organization comprised of university-based chapters dedicated to the advancement of undergraduate research, research-based undergraduate education, and outreach in biochemistry and molecular biology.
The ASBMB UAN offers undergraduate students and faculty an opportunity to connect with each other and their local communities by providing a variety of regional and national networking opportunities such as seminars, conferences and research opportunities, Travel Awards (for students and faculty) to attend the ASBMB Annual Meeting, career resources, and professional development opportunities.
Benefits of being part of the UAN include:
* Each affiliated program automatically receives one travel award (worth $500) for one of its undergraduates to attend the Annual ASBMB Meeting and present in the Undergraduate Poster Competition.
* Special consideration for competitive undergraduate travel awards and faculty travel awards to attend the ASBMB Annual Meeting.
* Eligible for undergraduate research awards.
* Awards to support outreach.
* Affiliated programs are eligible to sponsor regional undergraduate research symposia.
* Affiliated programs may also nominate students for membership in Chi Omega Lambda, the National Honor Society of ASBMB.
All of the above are in addition to the regular benefits of membership in the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which include our new Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Accreditation program, online subscriptions to the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular and Cellular Proteomics, and Journal of Lipid Research, and online and print subscriptions to the ASBMB magazine, ASBMB Today.
The beginning of each school year is the best time to join the UAN. Each chapter pays a minimum of $100 for up to 10 members and $10 for each additional student above 10. Faculty advisors must be an active member of the ASBMB. The UAN application deadline is December 5, 2014. For more information on UAN benefits, visit our website<http://www.asbmb.org/education/uan/>.
Schools designated as Minority Serving Institutions will receive special consideration for UAN membership. More information can be found at www.asbmb.org/education/msiuan<http://www.asbmb.org/education/msiuan>.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Andrea Anastasio
