Load up at...
POW-WOW: Produce on Wheels Without Waste (formerly known as Market on the Move)
The Department of Nutritional Sciences will be partnering with Borderlands Food Bank and the Diabetes Prevention and Education Center (DPEC) for this event.
ABOUT: Borderlands Food Bank works with produce companies in the U.S. and Mexico to distribute millions of pounds of produce each year which would otherwise go to waste. Distribution sites receive a variety of fruits and/or vegetables by the pallet and customers pay $10.00 for up to 60 lbs. of produce.
If you have animals, such as chickens, please consider making arrangements to come at the end of the distribution to pick up damaged produce to use as feed. To make arrangements, contact alinares at email.arizona.edu<mailto:alinares at email.arizona.edu>.
WHEN: Saturday November 29th, 2014 (Thanksgiving Weekend)
WHERE: Abrams Public Health Center- 3950 S. Country Club Rd (South Parking Lot)
TIME: 8:00-11:00- Arrive early for best pick!
COST: $10.00 (CASH ONLY) for up to 60 lbs. of produce
BEFORE YOU COME: Please pre-register online- This will speed up the check-in process when you arrive. You will only have to register with BFB once- You will then be provided with a "membership" type card which you can present at future distributions rather than filling out a form each time. http://www.borderlandfoodbank.org/POWWOW_Registration.html
TIPS:
1. Bring a wagon, rolling cart or packaging of some sort (box or canvas bag) to carry produce. Boxes will also become available as they are emptied.
2. Consider splitting the cost with a friend and sharing the produce- 60 lbs is a LOT of fruits and vegetables! (You don't have to take it all but you are allowed to if you would like)
3. $10.00 CASH ONLY- Please plan accordingly
4. Save the date- We will be holding 2 more distributions on January 31st and May 30th
Contact Ashlee Linares-Gaffer (alinares at email.arizona.edu<mailto:alinares at email.arizona.edu>) if you are interested in making arrangement to pick up damaged produce for chicken feed, or if you have any additional questions!
