Subject: [UPAC] Student can take a lower math course, not higher

HI,

Students are not required to take the highest math courses they place into.
We have a maximum score set on Math 100 and 100AX, but no other courses.
For example, if a student places into Calculus, he/she can take college
algebra instead, or Precalculus. No permission is required. This is not a
new policy. The freshman prescheduling program might place the student into
the highest possible course based on score and major, but the student has
the right to switch to a lower course instead (all courses except Math
100AX, Math 100 permission required).

Please refer to the table at
http://math.arizona.edu/academics/placement/courses#courses f or placement
ranges . Math 100 and 100AX have a range of scores. The other courses in the
table have a minimum score. The maximum score for these is 100%.

If a student has a high placement test score and wants to take Math 100, the
student will need permission. We put this in place for many reasons, one of
which was to prevent students from taking Math 100 to boost GPA after
completing a higher level math course.

Thank you!
