Subject: [UPAC] Red and Blue Award

Dear UPAC,

The Arizona Board of Regents Academic and Student Affairs Committee challenged each University to implement an financial incentive program to assist with degree production. Last year we tried a program with freshmen who did not obtain a scholarship upon entry, but met what would have been their renewal criteria had they received one. We offered them a small scholarship and an iPad to recognize their great work at the UA. The results did not seem to increase our retention within this group (it remained the same), so we decided to try something new and try to impact a different type of group.

OSFA has developed a new financial aid pilot called the “Red and Blue Award.” This incentive is to encourage first year students, with the below criteria, to be successful and make progress towards graduation.

The students who are potentially eligible for this award includes:

*	New or first time freshmen during the 2013-2014 academic year.
*	SAP Status at end of Spring 2014 = “Warning”, “Suspense” or “Academic Plan.
*	Min 1.0 CUM GPA and 12 units completed at end of Spring 2014

505 potentially eligible students were notified on 6/6/14

The complete terms and conditions for students to receive this award are located on <http://financialaid.arizona.edu/types-aid/scholarships/2014-2015-terms-and-conditions> http://financialaid.arizona.edu/types-aid/scholarships/2014-2015-terms-and-conditions

If you have any questions, please let Rebekah Salcedo (rsalcedo at email.arizona.edu) know.

Thank you!
