ABRCMS - Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students <http://gallery.mailchimp.com/d02ce653ff78467d92a1ca720/images/download.5.1.jpg>

The Graduate College encourages students to prepare for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) through formal or informal instruction and study, as appropriate to the individual. For those students seeking professional assistance, one option to consider is a workshop led by Michael Flynn, Executive Director of Grad Pros Educational Consulting. Mr. Flynn has facilitated GRE workshops on the UA campus since 2000 and has received consistently positive feedback.

There are three components to this workshop.

practice tests -- The course begins with a GRE practice test administered under simulated test conditions. Scores will be analyzed to determine areas of strength and weakness for each participant. One additional practice test will be taken in class, and another will be taken at home to familiarize students with the GRE's computer format.
group instruction -- Test-taking strategies for the quantitative, verbal and writing sections of the GRE will be covered along with time management, stress/anxiety and other topics relating to test performance. Timed sections will be administered to assess individual strengths/weaknesses and to improve pacing.
extra help from the instructor -- The instructor, Michael Flynn, is Executive Director of Grad Pros Educational Consulting and former admissions committee member at Harvard University and the UCSD School of Medicine. Extra help will be available during and after the workshop.
Additional Information:

Dates: The Spring 2014 workshop is designed to be completed over 4 days, as noted below. As new material is presented in each class, students need to commit to attending all four days of the workshop. The workshop is held on the UA campus.

Saturday, February 8 (9 AM to 5 PM)
Sunday, February 9 (9 AM to 1 PM)
Saturday, March 8 (9 AM to 5 PM)
Sunday, March 9 (9 AM to 1 PM)
Cost: $250

To request a seat in the workshop, please contact Michael Flynn by email: gradpros at gmail.com. In addition to your full name and phone number, please include the following information about your affiliation with UA and your plans to take the GRE:

A) Current UA students: indicate your year in school (junior, senior, graduate student, etc) and expected GRE test date. Note: you may be asked to show your UA Cat Card at the first workshop.

B) UA alumni: indicate your graduation date and expected GRE test date.

C) UA staff: indicate your title, department, and expected GRE test date.

D) Community members: indicate your expected GRE test date.

Class size is limited and registration is prioritized in the order indicated above. Please consider the interests of others and only request a seat in the workshop if you can fully commit to attending all four scheduled class meetings and plan to take the GRE soon after completing the workshop (within a month or so).

Additional questions may be directed to Stephanie Adamson in the UA Graduate College.

Join Unite For Sight’s Global Impact Corps for a hands-on, immersive and unique global health experience. A transformative volunteer abroad experience for students and professionals, Unite For Sight is renowned as the highest quality global health immersion and volunteer abroad program worldwide. Unite For Sight prides itself on offering the best global health experience for our volunteers, coupled with the highest quality healthcare delivery programs with our local doctor partners. Additionally, Unite For Sight is one of a handful of non-profit organizations worldwide that dedicate 100% of every donation to its programs; every dollar directly provides care for patients living in poverty.
Locations of Year-Round Health Care Delivery: Ghana, Honduras, and India
(volunteer for 7 days, 15 days, 20 days, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks, or more)
What do Unite For Sight volunteers do? Unite For Sight’s Volunteer Abroad Program is an immersive global health experience for students and professionals who are interested in public health, international development, medicine, or social entrepreneurship. Volunteers participate with and learn from Unite For Sight's talented local partner doctors who have provided care to nearly 1.7 million patients living in poverty, including more than 75,000 sight-restoring surgeries. Volunteers assist with patient education, visual acuity testing, patient intake, distributing the glasses and medication prescribed by the local eye doctors, and other important support tasks. They also have the opportunity to observe the surgeries provided by the local doctors. Additionally, volunteers may participate in the Global Impact Lab, an optional program for those interested in pursuing research. For example, we currently have volunteers pursuing research studies about medication management, the use of visual resources for patient education, traditional medicine practices, and patient barriers to eye care.

What do volunteers say? See many volunteer accounts at http://www.uniteforsight.org/volunteer-abroad/volunteer-accounts
"Working with Unite For Sight gave me the best possible opportunity to really learn what it means to work in global health at a ground level. My experience working with Unite For Sight has been a source of inspiration for me, cementing my decision to pursue a career in global health, and driving me to continue to actively contribute to the cause by reminding me that there’s so much that each of us can do at any point in our lives to help out."
--Uttara Partap.

"Unite For Sight’s international voluntary program is one that allows passionate young adults to see the reality of international development, and to open their minds to the possibility of serving the underprivileged while providing them the opportunity to support quality eye care in areas that need their contributions."—Sueyan Yuen.
