Dear Professor Sharp,

Hello again! I hope this email finds you well. Once again, I'm wondering if you could share information about our program in Panama with your students. Professors are our number one source for generating student interest and I'd appreciate your help very much! If you don't think this applies to your students, or you just don't want to hear from me again, feel free to tell me so.

Kalu Yala Independent Study Abroad and Entrepreneurial Internships is an 11-week skill-share and development trial-and-error laboratory for students in a variety of fields. The program allows students and young professionals to come to Panama and gain cultural exposure, work experience, and knowledge while creating a project that will ultimately help shape a sustainable community.

Since Summer 2010, we've had students from 44 states, 16 countries and 130 universities. This year, because of our incredible students, we've been blessed to be written about in several school newspapers, including Clemson University, Arizona State University, Florida State University, University of Richmond, and Winona State University. You can find the links to these articles on our homepage.

Kalu Yala is a sustainable community that will be built in the mountains about 45 minutes outside Panama City, Panama. Kalu Yala is founded on the core tenants of culture, new urbanism architecture, organic food, wellness, recreation, education, preservation, and conservation of the natural environment. Construction on the actual town has not yet begun, however, currently 4 of our 8 programs are based on the property.

Our days are split 4-and-4: 4 hours of a traditional internship model working on a director-led project, followed by 4 hours of an entrepreneurial model working on a project the student proposes and then brings to fruition. Past agriculture projects include an aquaponics system, designing and building a 25-chicken hen house and grazing area, creating hillside terraces, creating a plan for then purchasing our first goats, various composting methods, a medicinal garden, as well as many others.

This past summer, tropical permaculture expert Stephen Brooks joined us in Panama, bringing with him over 200 species of plants and trees. Our students spent four days working with Stephen on the ground in Kalu Yala. You can see the 2-minute video here<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLaz40n9Dy4>.

Our programs take place in 3 venues: creating the town's foundation in Kalu Yala; creating relationships in the neighboring town of San Miguel; and working on business logistics in Panama City.
