Hi Kyle,
I have received questions from students who are interested in DL50, but are first semester sophomores. Can they apply?
Jessica

Subject: [Agvisors] DL 50 FAQ
Hi Everyone,
It seems there have been a few questions as far as the structure, purpose, and timeline for the DL50.
The purpose of the Pilot DL 50 is to develop and enhance leadership and career skills for exceptional CALS students. It is not in competition with the CALS Ambassadors who are trained in leadership but that training is focused on public relations and recruitment for CALS. In fact, the CALS Ambassadors will act as facilitators for many of the events for the DL50.
There are 2 ways in which students may be selected for the DL50, first 4 may be nominated by their academic unit (36 total), second they can apply and complete the competitive application process( approximately 14). The reason for this approach is to ensure the DL50 is truly interdisciplinary, and all areas of CALS are represented.
* All 4 students nominated by their academic unit will be accepted into the program, the selection process followed by the unit is completely at the discretion of the unit. Students must meet the minimum qualifications and be willing to commit to participate actively in the program. Nomination packets should include the application, a cover letter, and resume. All nomination packets must be delivered by the unit to Forbes 201 by Sept. 20, 2013.
* Competitive applicants are students at large not nominated by their department. They must meet the minimum requirements for the program as well as attend one of the 2 information sessions tomorrow ( September 12 7:00 am and 5:30pm both in Marley 230). These students will complete an application packet including application, cover letter, and resume, to Forbes 201 by 4:30pm. After these documents are reviewed students will be selected to have a panel interview. Students will be selected on an overall score from their application packet and interview quality.
Activities students will participate in will include:
* Preparation of career related documents
* Communication training (written, oral, and public)
* Industry interaction
* Experiential learning projects
* In depth skills assessment
This is a 2 year pilot program and will be evaluated continuously as the events are planned and executed.
Please promote the application process to students you think might be a good fit but may not be among your 4 unit nominees.
If you have any further questions please let Frank or I know.
Thank you for your help in getting this program off to a strong start.
Kyle
