Hello Advisors,

 

Thanks to all who attended the UPAC meeting yesterday. I just wanted to
review some important points of the Pre-Law Thematic Minor and the program.

 

CLAS is now allowing advisors across campus to add students to the PLW
thematic minor. I have attached a copy of the minor, as it stands now, for
your convenience. Please use this course list for reference when meeting
with students interested in this minor.  We ask that you not make exceptions
for students and, as always, there is no double dipping from courses in the
major or from Tier 1 to this minor. There have been instances of a course or
two that is in the student's major that is not being used. If that is the
case, please make a note on UAccess saying that the course will not be used
in the major. CLAS will then make the determination if the course will be
used for the PLW minor. We ask that major advisors not tell students the
course can be used in the minor as it confuses the issue for all concerned.

 

If students have questions about a course that is not listed, please refer
them to me. There are some courses that seem to fit this minor but the
department does not allow us to use it. This is something for all of us to
keep in mind when it's time to submit the minor for the next catalogue. If
your department has other courses they will allow to be used, please let me
know when we are doing the revision. 

 

Please encourage any of your students you feel would be interested to attend
the events during Pre-Law Week, especially the Expo on Oct. 31.  Our Phi
Alpha Delta pre-law chapter puts a lot of time and effort into assisting
CLAS in putting on this event.  The law school representatives enjoy meeting
as many of our students as possible and it's a great opportunity for UA to
host these schools.
