Hello, Region 10!

Another day of snow and cold here in Colorado - would someone please tell
"Old Man Winter" the calendar says it's time for Spring?!?! Of course, it
is going to be in the seventies in Tucson today!

ITEM #1. One last reminder that the early registration deadline for the
Region 10 Conference is fast approaching! Join your NACADA colleagues from
May 13 - 15, 2013 at the Marriott University Park Hotel to improve your
advising knowledge and skills, renew old friendships and make new ones, and
have some fun! The planning committee is putting the final touches on the
program. We will also kick-off the Region 10 Mentoring Program. Here's the
link for more details:

To our friends in California and Nevada - if you didn't get a chance to go
to the fabulous Region 9 conference, we'd love to have you come on down!

Remember, conference registration fees increase on 22 Apr 2013 from $120 to
$155, so don't delay - register today!

ITEM #2. Thanks to those of you who applied for a travel scholarship to the
2013 NACADA Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City! The Region 10 Steering
Committee will review the applications and announce recipients in the very
near future! Region 10 plans to award five scholarships, worth up to $575,
this year.

ITEM #3 - Region 10 Mentoring Program Sign-up - Deadline extended to 21 Apr
2013!

Region 10 is excited to announce a new program for our membership. We will
kick off the Region 10 Mentoring Program in May 2013 at the regional
conference in Tucson! Whether you are brand new to the profession or are a
seasoned advisor, being part of a mentoring relationship can be satisfying,
engaging, and rewarding. The Region 10 Mentoring Program seeks to pair
new(er) advisors with more seasoned advisors who are already established in
the career field. The idea of having a mentor in NACADA is not new and
several other regions have adopted similar programs to assist new advisors
with their professional development, but we believe this program will bring
real "value added" to our colleagues in the Rocky Mountain region!

Because this is a new initiative, we've decided to limit program
participation in the first year to those who attend the 2013 Regional
conference. Mentors and mentees will have their initial meeting at the
regional conference in Tucson (with a provided meal) and will then
participate in monthly topical discussions designed to promote intellectual
growth and conversation between advisors. We will also be asking for monthly
feedback from each mentoring pair. This is designed to provide each pair
feedback on their interactions, but also to inform future program
development.

Our goal is to thoughtfully expand the Region 10 Mentoring Program so any
member who wants to participate can do so regardless of their ability to
attend a regional conference. So, if you are unable to be in Tucson this
May, there will still be opportunities to participate in future years!

To participate as a Mentor, you must:

   1. Register for the Region 10 Conference in Tucson
   2. Have 4+ years of professional advising experience
   3. Submit a one-page essay outlining why you want to be a mentor and what
you are looking for in a mentee

To participate as a Mentee, you must:

   1. Register for the Region 10 Conference in Tucson
   2. Have less than 4 years professional advising experience
   3. Submit a one-page essay on what you hope to take from the program and
what you are looking for in a mentor

Please e-mail your essays to Joe Davis at joseph.w.davis at asu.edu to be
considered for the program. Application deadline is Sunday, 21 April 2013.
We will do our best to appropriately match mentors and mentees. Space is
limited in the first year to 15 pairings.

The bond between a mentor and mentee is not just about monthly talks. It is
hoped that mentor pairs will do much more over the course of their
relationship to promote the idea of professional development within the
pairings.

I hope to see you in Tucson! Be sure to register today!
