BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN LITERACY, LEARNING AND LEADERSHIP
Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies
The purpose of this non-certification undergraduate major is to prepare
graduates to work in settings outside of schools and classrooms and to
provide leadership and learning opportunities. Students will examine
polices that promote equity and educational access for immigrant children
and adults, for people living in poverty and for people with disabilities.
Because learning also occurs outside of formal P-12 education, program
graduates will be prepared to work in settings that
. promote literacy for children, adults and families
. establish a climate of respect for learners who differ in age and
purpose
. inform and impact state, national, and community policy
Potential job opportunities and settings include
. private non-profit or for-profit organizations
. the corporate sector (e.g., publishing, technology, educator
professional development, research and evaluation, policy, and consulting)
. community groups, environmental learning centers, or senior
citizen projects
. youth or adult after-school or tutoring programs
. youth education and outreach programs (sports programs, summer
camps)
