Subject: New Upper division Honors seminars to be added to the course catalog

Special provisions are being made to create a new 396H, 1 unit, special topics seminar course, targeting junior and senior-level Honors students beginning with the Fall 2012 term. Sophomores may enroll if granted permission by the department. Please distribute this email to department heads of your respective colleges. The information will also be distributed via the COURSES Listserv.

For inclusion,  department heads should submit their consent to participate to their associate dean and/or college-level authorized signatory for course approval no later than March 5, 2012. The associate dean or  college-level authorized signatory will need to forward a list of approved participating departments to Sandra B. Gonzales, beelers at email.arizona.edu<mailto:beelers at email.arizona.edu>, no later than March 9, 2012 to be included in the Fall 2012 schedule. No Form Link new course forms are to be submitted.

Participating departments will have until March 17, 2012 to submit scheduling information for section(s). The usual scheduling information/format submitted though the RCS website should be included in an email and sent to either Fernando Chavez, fchavez at email.arizona.edu<mailto:fchavez at email.arizona.edu> or Sandra B. Gonzales, beelers at email.arizona.edu<mailto:beelers at email.arizona.edu>
This will allow courses to be created and scheduled in time for the opening of priority registration.

Sample course catalog description for participating departments:

Effective term: Fall 2012
Course Number: XXXX 396H
Title: "Department Name" Honors Special Topics Seminar
Long Description: An Honors special topics seminar course for Honors Active Juniors and Seniors. Course includes small group discussion, research, and presentations on a  variety of "department" related special topics of interest.  Current research, relevant issues, historical perspectives and guest speakers may be included. Honors sophomores may enroll with consent of the department.
Minimum/Maximum Units: 1
Repeat for Credit: Max 2 units
Course Typically Offered: Fall
Enrollment Requirement Group:  Honors Active Juniors and Seniors.

Departments can manually override the Enrollment Requirement Group restriction and enroll approved sophomore-level students.
