> I would like to introduce you to the new cohort of Honors Professors for 2012-2013.  It is a diverse and exciting group, as you’ll see.  Thank you for all of your support and interest in this project.

> As part of the First-year Program, each of these professors will teach a one-unit colloquium on a topic of their choice – usually related to our theme “Human Rights: Beyond Borders,” and possibly using our common reading book, TC Boyle’s Tortilla Curtain.

> All honors students take a one-unit seminar in their first semester; about two thirds of the entering class takes a seminar taught by one of these professors.  The other third of our entering students take Paladins, which is a course directed primarily toward first-generation college students.  We will be opening enrollment to these courses during the three honors orientation sessions in June.

> Most honors students will attend those orientation sessions (June 8-9, 14-15 and 21-22).  We will be making sure that the honors sections and courses available for general education are open during those sessions.  For those students who attend a different orientation session, we will be holding meetings to introduce them to our First-year Program.

> We have met with most of you to discuss planning and to offer support for those three Orientation Sessions.
