Subject: Final Units in Residence
Dear Advisors,
As of today, you will notice that the Final Units in Residence requirement
is no longer calculating on the advisement reports. Most of you are aware
that the advisement reports reference transfer credit articulation term
(usually the student's first term at the UA), as opposed to the external
term the student actually took a transfer course at another institution.
This causes problems when trying to calculate whether 18 or more of a
student's last 30 units before graduation were taken at the UA or as
transfer credit. Because of this limitation and the potential implication
for graduation delays and general petitions, the advisement reports will no
longer present this calculation, but will simply state the policy and refer
the student to an academic advisor for clarification:
"A minimum of 18 of the final 30 units taken toward degree requirements must
be in residence at The University of Arizona. Consult with your academic
advisor if you intend to use transfer credits to fulfill your degree
requirements."
This message will display on the online and pdf advisement reports at all
times (i.e. it will never collapse and look satisfied). Since this will be a
manual calculation, I wanted to direct you to a planning sheet and example
Jennifer Cubeta was kind enough to provide on the ARC website:
http://www.advising.arizona.edu/advisors_forms_processes#u. For your
reference, the full policy can be found in the online UA Catalog:
http://catalog.arizona.edu/2011-12/policies/gradavg.htm#Credit.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this change to the
advisement reports.
