Greetings Agvisors:
The UA is considering offering 7.5 week courses and the topic is currently
under discussion with Undergraduate Council (UGC). Right now they are
exploring the pros and cons of offering two 7.5 week sessions in addition to
the traditional semester. Please think of pros and cons to offering two new
7.5 sessions along with the 15 week session from an advising perspective.
Please respond to this email by this Friday (11/11) if possible. Below is
some feedback already gathered:
. It could benefit students and has the potential to generate
considerable administrative overhead, particularly for Financial Aid,
Registrar and Bursar
. Big pro - having the flexibility for students to add a course in
the 2nd 7.5 session (aka 'late start classes')
. How will this affect the census date deadline
. Will different deadlines be created (i.e. Late fees, Withdrawals or
any schedule changes, GRO)
. Based on course load can courses be limited to specific student
populations (i.e. non-Freshmen). A FR might end up registering for 15 units
(of which 3 units are part of the late start session), the course load and
transitioning into university level might be a 'shock' after the late start
course commences(?).
I will gather your feedback and forward to the CALS UGC representative, Dr.
Dennis Ray, and also to Roxie Catts whom represents the UA advising
community in some committees where this topic will be discussed.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Best,
Nancy
