Subject: MATH 100AX and MATH 100 Course Access

Hi everyone,

A couple of calls came my way asking if I could provide some descriptions
for advisors to use when describing how to log on to MATH 100AX and MATH 100
courses. Below is the email content that was sent to students enrolled in
those courses about accessing the courses. Thank you to Michelle Woodward
for passing these along!

MATH 100AX

Welcome to Math 100AX!

You will find the email that I sent out earlier this week copied below, in
case you have not yet received it. The Math 100 Instructional Team is
very excited to meet you tomorrow! Remember that you are meeting in the
online room from D2L (see #2 below), and you are NOT going to a physical
classroom. You will need to purchase an access code for ALEKS at the
Bookstore. You can find it on the textbook shelves where it says Math
100. See attached picture so you know what you are looking for. If the
bookstore was out of headsets and digital tablets, I hear they should be
in by Tuesday. It is not absolutely necessary to have either of those for
the first day of class, but you MUST have some sort of headphones/speakers
so you can hear us.

"See" you tomorrow!

Cheryl Ekstrom

Here are two videos that you need to watch in order to be ready for class
next week. These links will take you to Vimeo and YouTube to watch a
video.

1. What book do I buy? This video shows you how to purchase ALEKS, our
online "textbook".

               http://vimeo.com/27837039
               Course Code: CFNER - WW936

2. Where do I go on the first day of class? Watch this video and it will
walk you through the steps.

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZyfWgAv-Ec

I was not able to make a new video specific to the Fall semester Math
100AX sections, however, the steps are primarily the same. In this video,
Michelle Woodward, another Math 100AX instructor, is showing how to log
into Elluminate, our online classroom. Follow her steps, making
appropriate changes (such as clicking on your Section link, instead of
Section 031).

NOTE: We will NOT be meeting in person, except for the proctored exam
dates. In lieu of meeting in a classroom, we will be meeting through
Elluminate at the scheduled time of the class (please refer to your
schedule of classes to see when you are scheduled to meet online). It is
very important that you know how to get to the online room prior to the
first day of class. Please try to get in at least once before Monday's
class. If you recently changed sections, or you just added the class, you
may not see the link to your online room yet, but we will be updating the
online rooms frequently over the weekend.

Note that it can take some computers 5-10 minutes to log in to the online
room, particularly the first time. Please allow yourself at least that
long to log in on the first day of class so you do not miss anything.

We are in the process of creating an FAQ page on the Math 100 website at
http://math.arizona.edu/math100. Please check back here frequently as
your question may be answered there already (particularly in
troubleshooting Elluminate).

I and the Math 100 instructional team look forward to working with you
this semester.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Ekstrom

If you are re-taking this course, note that some minor changes have been
made from last semester. Be sure to read the class syllabus carefully
under D2L Content. Also, although you may already have an ALEKS account,
I will not be able to see your progress until you enter in the course code
specified above. Be sure to make that change.
