<b>ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, ANR POSITION UPDATE<br>
</b> <br>
The Extension Administrative Team (EAT) consists of myself and the
following Assistant and Associate Directors (ADs) and Program Leaders and
their areas of responsibility: Kirk Astroth, 4-H; Linda Houtkooper, FCHS;
and Trent Teegerstrom, American Indian Programs. Last fall Ed
Martin accepted the position as the Director for Maricopa County
Cooperative Extension and vacated the AD position for Agriculture and
Natural Resources (ANR). In my work with the EAT group I have
recognized the value that these positions provide to the effective
management and leadership needed for Cooperative Extension (CE), which
includes Extension programs with faculty and staff in the
counties, on reservations, in departments/schools, and at Research and
Extension Centers. Recognizing the need to fill this AD ANR
position, we have been conducting an internal search process for the
position with several excellent candidates having submitted
applications.<br>
<br>
Through this review process two candidates have been identified for the
final review and selection for the AD ANR position. In an effort to
allow both of the final candidates to openly discuss their perspectives
on this position we are scheduling open seminars in the next few weeks
and I will be soliciting input and recommendations from all CALS CE
faculty and staff before making the final selection. We will
communicate the dates, times and locations for these seminars as they are
scheduled. I encourage all CALS CE personnel to engage the
candidates through these public seminars and to provide input regarding
the final selection process. <br>

An <b>Early Childhood Programs</b> statewide In-service was held December
19-20th in Tucson at the John and Doris Norton School for Family and
Consumer Sciences (JDNSFCS). The 19 In-service participants focused on
strategic planning to advance the development of CE Programs targeting
early childhood education and health promotion. Faculty and staff shared
updates on 16 CE early childhood programs currently being conducted in
counties and on Indian Reservations throughout the state. In-Service
speakers included Jeff Silvertooth, Stephen Russell (Interim Director,
JDNSFCS), Linda Houtkooper, Lorinda Mills and Glenda Thompson (CALS
Grants and Contracts Office), Lee Peters (UA Office of Research Contracts
and Analysis), Michelle Katona (Chief Regional Officer, First Things
First), Karen Woodhouse (Chief Program Officer, FTF). Ann
Mastergeorge, Dan McDonald, Michele Walsh, Evelyn Whitmer and Linda
Houtkooper were the In-service planning team and Allison Titcomb
facilitated the strategic planning sessions. The outcomes and action
items from the In-service will be used to continue advancing the impacts
of CE Early Childhood programs throughout the state to improve people's
lives, their communities and the economy.<br>

<b>UA VITAE ANNUAL REPORTING SYSTEM:<br>
<br>
</b>A new year reminder that the <a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/">UA
</a><i>Vitae</i><a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/"> Annual Reporting
System</a> is ready for use by faculty to complete their annual
reviews. We are one of several colleges piloting the system (SBS,
Fine Arts, CALS, Public Health, and the College of Medicine,
Phoenix). As detailed on the
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/help/questions">FAQs page</a>, the UA
Vitae system will replace the PETS and APROL systems. The UA
<i>Vitae</i> website also includes information pages
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/about">about the system</a> and
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/system-benefits">on the benefits of
the system</a>. Faculty can log into the system by going to the
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/">college pages on the UA
</a><a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/"><i>Vitae website</a></i>.
To save faculty time, information is currently in the process of being
loaded on courses, sponsored research and prior annual reviews from the
APROL and PETS systems. There will inevitably be questions about
this information. For example, faculty may not be familiar with how
independent studies and dissertation hours are listed in our information
systems of record. Faculty will be provided with opportunities to
offer feedback on this information if they believe it is incorrect.
Workshops on these points are being offered. Faculty may wish to
start entering their annual report information and rely on the on-screen
help icons. The system is quite intuitive and comparatively easy to
use. The
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/resources">Resources</a> page
includes a
<a href="http://uavitae.arizona.edu/sites/uavitae/files/uavitae_quickstartguide_11_18_final_3.pdf">
Quick Start Guide</a> and a
<a href="https://www.faculty180.com/help/videos/Faculty180_for_faculty/index.html">
Getting Started</a> video. The due date of February 17 has been set
for CALS faculty to submit their annual reviews. <br>
