The four programs that will be developed are for the north, central, southwest, and southeast regions of the state. The counties associated with each region include: 1) north – Mohave, Yavapai, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, and Apache; 2) central – Maricopa and Pinal; 3) southwest – Yuma and La Paz; and 4) southeast – Greenlee, Graham, Cochise, Santa Cruz, and Pima.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The first event associated with this Extension Centennial program series will be held in Yuma in conjunction with the Southwest Agriculture Conference, 26-27 February 2014. We will be enlisting faculty and staff from campus to attend and participate in the program. We anticipate travel from Tucson the morning of Wednesday 26 February, followed by a tour of crop production systems in the Yuma Valley that afternoon and a pre-conference reception that evening. The full program begins at 8:00am on Thursday the 27 February. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The intention is to have CE participation across all types of CALS units and also local stakeholder participation in each program that will provide a distinct regional flavor. Transportation and lodging arrangements will be provided to accommodate travel for faculty and staff from the UA campus. Thus, at this time I am inviting all campus-based units in CALS to engage in each of these four regional programs and getting a good start on planning for this first program in Yuma in February. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>I will be working directly with the unit heads as they develop contributions from our departments and schools. This is a great opportunity to get CALS personnel out into the state, interact with stakeholders, learn about the agricultural industries and communities in several parts of Arizona, and share experiences with members of the region. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION FEES - <span style='color:red'>UPDATE</span>:<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>After some further research into policies and archives for Extension and the UA, the Extension Administration Team has rescinded the previously published policy in the Program & Procedural Manual on professional association/organization fees (or dues) so we can be in alignment with current UA policy. The policy that was listed in the P&P Manual was from 2007 and should have been updated several years ago. It is now updated (<a href="http://extension.arizona.edu/acebooks/content/60505-professional-association-feesconference-travel">Section 6.05.05</a>).<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Professional association fees (according to the <a href="http://policy.fso.arizona.edu/fsm/900/910#t1_6">UA FSO Policy & Procedures #910</a>) <b><span style='color:red'>can be paid</span></b> from State and Local accounts. It states: “Dues are only allowable for professional organizations in which the University derives a business benefit from the institutional or individual membership. The organization’s membership must be restricted to a particular occupational interest group or academic discipline and whose purpose is generally to provide a common association for its members (e.g. AMA, ASCE, ASA). Dues for social service organizations, political action committees, or lobbying organizations are not allowable from any funds. Some organizations identify an option to add donations or contributions to political action committees to the base dues. There will be two presentations: “CCT Video Production Today and Tomorrow” by our new Video Production Coordinator, Cody Sheehy; and “Introducing Panopto” by CCT’s Educational & Multimedia Technologies Program Director, Dave Bogner. The video production presentation will provide an overview of current changes including new equipment, personnel, and approaches that can be integrated into the CALS/UA communication strategies. Recent projects will be featured as will a glance into the future to explore the creative possibilities provided by the new infrastructure. In addition, the new integrated lecture capture/archive/delivery system “Panopto” will be demonstrated, including an overview of CALS classrooms currently configured to record lectures and tips for implementing the system. “Panopto” will be available to all UA faculty and staff beginning spring of 2014.
