UA President Ann Weaver Hart joined us for an hour to outline her vision of a modern 21<sup>st</sup> Century Land-Grant University and the role of Cooperative Extension in that model. We also had a chance to discuss with President Hart how we can best work to support her efforts to bring the $6.3M decision package proposal for CALS Cooperative Extension that has been approved by the Arizona Board of Regents and now needs to be approved and funded by the Governor and Arizona Legislature. This proposal is intended to enhance our capacity to build new programs that are in demand across the State and better enable CALS Cooperative Extension to address the growing needs in Agriculture and Natural Resources; 4-H Youth Development; and Family, Consumer, and Health Sciences at all of our current sites of operation (departments, counties, and centers) to positively impact the economic development of Arizona.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with President Hart in this manner. She truly understands the purpose and function of a Land-Grant University and the valuable role that Cooperative Extension plays in providing the critical connections between the university and people throughout the state. Her support for this proposal is driven by this understanding and her vision for a modern land-grant institution in the 21<sup>st</sup> Century and the recognition that we have a solid foundation in CALS Cooperative Extension today to build upon for the future. We had an extremely interesting and enjoyable session with President Hart and she clearly articulated that she is very sincere and committed to attaining funding for this proposed decision package. This message was very well received by all that were present and we assured President Hart that she can count on CALS and all facets of Cooperative Extension to do everything possible to help in this effort. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We still have a lot of work to do before we will be able to be successful in this endeavor. As this advancement of the process for support and approval of this decision package develops in the weeks ahead, I will be communicating with our organization and the key personnel that will be called upon to act and serve supportive roles to help obtain the funding outlined in the decision package. In so doing, we will be working to coordinate our efforts with the Extension Administration Team, CALS Executive Council, and the President’s office. Kristin began work on November 12 and will have responsibilities to assist me with the James 4-H Camp, the 4-H Centennial, the 4-H International Exchange Program, and assistance with the VISTA and AmeriCorps programs. It's very important that people affected by the Sophos update problem get it fixed ASAP because the issue affects other programs and may leave other software unable to update, leading to security vulnerabilities. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>“Back in mid-September, a bad Sophos update was distributed that disabled the Sophos Autoupdater. This issue might also have affected other updating software such as the Flash and Java updaters. To check if this is the case with your computer, check to be sure the Sophos "shield" appears in the System Tray (area where the date/time appears). If there is no Sophos shield, the updater has been disabled.
