President Hart recently presented this proposal to the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) who reviewed it with strong favor and support. This decision package proposal has now been advanced from ABOR to Governor Jan Brewer’s office for review. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>This proposal was developed by the Extension Administration Team (EAT) and reviewed for approval by Dean Burgess when we were given a brief window of time to present a proposal to the President’s office for preliminary review in August. Responding quickly to this opportunity, the proposal was crafted to provide broad developmental support for Extension programs across all areas of our system including: Agriculture and Natural Resources; 4-H Youth Development; Family, Consumer, and Health Sciences and all current sites of function (departments, counties, and centers).<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We are quite fortunate to have the opportunity to work with President Hart in this manner. We are also very fortunate in relation to the fact that she truly understands the purpose and function of a land-grant institution and the valuable role that Cooperative Extension plays in providing the critical connections between the university and the public. Her support for this proposal is driven by this understanding and her vision for a modern land-grant institution in the 21<sup>st</sup> Century and the recognition that we have a solid foundation in CALS Cooperative Extension today to build upon for the future. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>I have arranged a meeting with President Hart on campus for the morning of Wednesday, 14 November. For this session I have invited all CALS Department Heads, County Directors, and Center Directors since these people have the administrative responsibility for the development and delivery of Extension programs from every facet of CALS. The purpose of this meeting is to provide President Hart an opportunity to initiate a direct dialog with CALS Cooperative Extension, describe her land-grant vision and the role of Cooperative Extension in that model, and to begin the discussion of how we best work with her to support her efforts to bring this decision package to fruition. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>I am looking forward to this opportunity to work with President Hart, join her in the effort to bring these new resources to CALS Cooperative Extension, and most importantly build new programs that positively influence economic development for Arizona in terms of dollars of new revenue, jobs, and social impact.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:red'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>VISTA UPDATE:<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Our current VISTA Leader, Julie Ferreira, has decided to end her term of service for financial reasons. Her last day will be this Friday, November 9. Fortunately, I have been able to hire Manasi Gharpure Mallard back starting November 12. Manasi will be working about 20 hours a week until she graduates December 14 and then will be working full time. She will be recruiting VISTA members for 3 new positions beginning in February as well as for a new VISTA Leader. The Contract Process Guide can be found on the <a href="http://www.orca.arizona.edu/presentations.html">Office of Research and Contract Analysis website</a> and on the <a href="http://www.pacs.arizona.edu/procedures_help">Procurement and Contracting Services website</a>. The goal of the guidance is to provide the University research community with the practical knowledge and general understanding of the University’s procurement and contracting processes.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The Office of Research and Contract Analysis (ORCA) and Procurement and Contracting Services (PACS) have the lead responsibility in the negotiation and acceptance of awards on behalf of the University of Arizona. This issue might also have affected other updating software such as the Flash and Java updaters. To check if this is the case with your computer, check to be sure the Sophos "shield" appears in the System Tray (area where the date/time appears). If there is no Sophos shield, the updater has been disabled. Call your IT support person or the University's 24/7 IT Support Desk (520.626.8324) to have this issue resolved as soon as possible since it leaves the antivirus without the updated virus signatures necessary to catch the newer viruses.
