One maintenance item is cleaning out "junk files" that collect over time. Junk files are defined as temp files, temp Internet files, and files in the recycle bin. Windows has a built-in program called Disk Cleanup, located in the "[All] Programs - Accessories - System Tools" folder. For XP, check all the items for cleaning. For Windows 7, check all the items, except the two or three bottom entries (... Windows Error Reporting ...). By running Disk Cleanup regularly (once a week or every other week), junk files will not pile up and cause your computer to run slower. There is another program called ccleaner that is very effective in cleaning out junk files as well (and will be the subject of a future “Tech Tip”).

UPCOMING EVENTS:

UA Food Fest Partners (Campus Health, Campus Rec Center, Dining Services, Life & Work Connections, Office of Sustainability, Social Justice League, Student Health Advisory Committee, Students for Sustainability, Student Unions, and Well U are celebrating National Food Day, starting Tuesday, October 18.
