More than 80 young people whose families are affiliated with the military attended the camp--staying in dorms, learning about campus, taking workshops and learning leadership skills and other life skills. All of our Tucson-based VISTA members and our AmeriCorps member, Marianna Salgado, helped with the camp and a huge congratulations to Teresa Noon who gave leadership to the camp and wrote a grant to finance it. Nick Taylor made a short video of the camp which should be appearing soon on our website. Roger Road, Tucson). All supplies to make 3 simple hydroponic systems will be included. There will also be a tour of the CEAC greenhouses and discussions about nutrients, pest management and more. The cost is $50 and can be paid by check to Pat Rorabaugh. Pat has over 21 years of experience in hydroponics and has been teaching for over 12 years. She will be assisted by Ph.D. graduate student, Stacy Tollefson, and CEAC volunteers.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Plans are underway for the <b>Arizona Science & Technology Festival</b> to coincide with Arizona's Centennial Celebration in <b>February 2012</b> to celebrate the importance of science and technology in our everyday lives and Arizona's world leadership in science, technology and innovation during the next 100 years. The Festival is a grassroots public-private collaboration coordinated by the Technology Council Foundation, ASU and dozens of organizations across industry, business, education, foundations and community. We believe it is imperative for Extension to be highly visible during this three-week window of events. Local 4-H clubs, research centers, Extension programs, and everyone can help educate Arizona citizens about the role of science and technology in our programs. Plans are being made to hold both signature events that draw large crowds and smaller neighborhood events that highlight exciting careers in science and provide hands-on experiences in science for people of all ages.
