Tuesday Morning Notes

July 3, 2012

FOCUS ON FACULTY:

I'd like to welcome Dan Faulkner who joined the Department of Animal
Sciences faculty as Livestock Extension Specialist as of July 1. He is
"excited to get back to the west to do research and work with beef producers
that utilize beef cattle as a major source of income" and is "looking
forward to working with producers, the Arizona Cattlemens' Association and
allied beef industries." His lab and office will be located in the Shantz
building. For more information, go to the Arizona Livestock Review website
<http://www.cals.arizona.edu/ans/livestockreview/Spring_12/new_faculty.html>
.

COUNTY OFFICE COMPUTER SUPPORT:

As with all of us, budget cuts (pending or already in place) are affecting
the way we do business and the State Office is no exception. Starting
yesterday, July 2, Andy Medina's hours will be reduced 10% and he will be
available 10:00am-6:12pm, Monday through Friday. All else remains the same
as to county support by telephone, remote access system or on-site visits by
Andy Medina (requested through my office but travel costs paid by the
requesting county). Andy's time will continue to be covered by this office.
To manage the on-site support requests, email your request to Steven Crofts
<mailto:scrofts at cals.arizona.edu> and Andy Medina
<mailto:gamedina at cals.arizona.edu> .

We also want to remind county offices that when you order new computers
(desktop or laptop), please work with and send questions to Andy
<mailto:gamedina at cals.arizona.edu> (520.626.8395) -- or Robert Armstrong
<mailto:armstrng at cals.arizona.edu> (520.621.3872) as back up. This way, we
can be sure you are getting the right technology for your location and that
we are able to support it (whether by remote access or in person).

TECH TIP OF THE WEEK:

Are you tired of the same old PowerPoint presentations, with boring bullet
points and overused transition effects? Do you want to have a presentation
that Zooooms? Well if you haven't already, take a look at Prezi - the
online 'zooming presentation editor'. With Prezi (prezi.com), you can

create a presentation that pans and zooms around the canvas. You can import
images, videos, PDFs, even from YouTube and PowerPoint slides. You can
collaborate in real time, whether in the same room or across the country.
And, you can present from your desktop, your tablet, or from the cloud. Get
a free account for prezis open to the public, or a paid account (30 day free
trial) for more storage space and privately kept presentations. View one of
the recently featured prezis at
