Tuesday Morning Notes - THE EARLY EDITION
November 29, 2011
FOCUS ON CALS ALUMS:
Congratulations to Howard Wuertz (Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering
alum) who was named the Irrigation Association's Person of the Year. Howard
began producing cotton in Coolidge in 1951 and has since added alfalfa,
wheat, barley, and melons to his farm. He now has 32,000 acres in total,
all of them under subsurface drip irrigation. He is also an innovator,
holds five patents, has invented equipment that facilitates subsurface drip
installation, and developed a complete cropping system to manage soils,
nutrients, water and energy.
ARIZONA 4-H RECOGNIZED FOR CULTURAL IMMERSION PROGRAMMING:
Arizona 4-H recently received the High Quality Program Award in Washington,
D.C. at the 40th anniversary of Japanese/U.S. exchange programs. Erin
Gries, one of the volunteers who helps with our Japanese exchange program,
also received the Volunteer Appreciation Award. Congratulations to Erin and
the rest of the volunteers who help me so much with running this important
program--Tina Christenson, Kay Hongu, and LoriAnne Barnett.
TECH TIP OF THE WEEK:
Many of you depend on the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to connect to the
UofA's On-Line Financial System and other secure on-line services. Please
be aware that the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client has been updated to version
3.0.4235 and is now called the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. The
update will be applied automatically the next time the VPN client is used.
You will need to use the new shortcut icon as the shortcuts for the old
version will not work with the new version. There is one option setting
(Connect on start-up) that may need to be changed. Options are accessed by
clicking on the "Advanced" link in the Cisco AnyConnect window. If you use
the VPN client all the time, make sure this option is selected. If you
would rather not have the login box come up until you are ready to use the
VPN client, make sure the option is not selected. Also, make sure the
"Enable local LAN access" option is enabled, this is necessary if you use
network printers or drives.
We have come across some rare but strange problems in installing the new
update. If you run into any problems with the update, contact Robert
Armstrong <mailto:armstrng at cals.arizona.edu> or Andy Medina
<mailto:gamedina at cals.arizona.edu> so they can troubleshoot and correct the
VPN installation.
