Tuesday Morning Notes
June 14, 2011
--------------------------------------------------
Special Note: Due to server issues last week, it was discovered that our
TMN listserv was not functioning properly last week and some of the
following items are being reported later than planned. In addition, it was
not working yesterday as well, so we're hoping this makes it through.
--------------------------------------------------
FOCUS ON FACULTY:
Congratulations to Kevin Heaton, Rob Grumbles and Chad Reid who recently had
a paper published in the latest issue of the Journal of the National
Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) - The Secrets of a
Successful Extension Program: AZ/UT Range Livestock Workshop and Tour 33
years and Counting <http://www.nacaa.com/journal/index.php?jid=90> .
COMPASSIONATE MEDICAL LEAVE REQUEST:
Due to extended medical leave, Marta Stuart is in need of compassionate
leave transfers. If you would like to contribute, complete the
Compassionate Transfer of Leave Contribution form
<http://uabis.arizona.edu/eforms/Launcher.asp?FormID=243> and send it to
Karen Pizzuto in the Yavapai County Extension office (840 Rodeo Drive
Building C, Prescott, AZ, 86305). Thank you.
FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:
On Tuesday May 17, the Arizona Project WET Program and the Pinal County
Cooperative Extension Office held a Founding Sponsor Celebration at the
District Board Room in Casa Grande. For the past two years the local Abbott
Nutrition Plant and Abbott Fund have committed to promoting wise water use
and water stewardship by fully funding the Pinal County Arizona Project WET
Program. Arizona Cooperative Extension recognized the significance of
Abbott's commitment and honored the Abbott Fund and Abbott Nutrition by
presenting them with two plaques. Jim Christenson, Associate Dean of the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of Arizona Cooperate
Extension, presented the awards on behalf of ACE, the college and the
University of Arizona.
EXTENSION STAFF OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINATIONS:
I want to remind you there is only a little over two weeks left to submit
nominations for the 2011 Outstanding Staff in Cooperative Extension Award.
We have many excellent staff that support our on- and off-campus Extension
programs. I want to strongly encourage you as a faculty member,
administrator or staff to submit your nominations for this award by Friday,
June 24. Nomination criteria are available at
http://cals.arizona.edu/awards/extstaffawd.html -- please read the criteria
carefully, submitting only the materials noted (no vitas). Submit your
nominations and support letters to Steven Crofts, University of Arizona
Cooperative Extension, PO Box 210036, Tucson, AZ, 85721 or
scrofts at cals.arizona.edu. If you have any questions, contact Steve
<mailto:scrofts at ag.arizona.edu> (520.621.7145).
eXtension UPDATE:
A new eXtension Community of Practice (CoP) was recently launched in May
during the National Workshop on Climate and Forests. Spearheaded by Tom
DeGomez, Mike Crimmins, Chris Jones and Sabrina Kleinman, the CoP educates
and leads discussions concerning our changing climate and its effects on our
forest resources. The site has over 250 pages of content and 125 FAQs as
the basis of the educational content. Other UA contributors were Melanie
Lenart, Greg Garfin, Zack Guido, Jeff Schalau and Ed Martin. Visit the
eXtension Climate, Forests and Woodlands
<http://www.extension.org/climate%20forests%20woodlands> web site
to see all the great work these leaders and the rest of the members have
done.
